During a diving competition in China, a woman was rescued by an unlikely lifeguard -- a beluga whale!
Twenty-six year old competitive diver Yang Yun was participating in a free diving contest (without breathing equipment) at Polar Land, an animal park dedicated to creatures that live in arctic weather. The event required each diver to sink to the bottom of a 20-foot pool full of beluga whales. But soon enough, Yun realized she was in trouble: the water's freezing temperature had caused cramping in her legs, and she was unable to swim to the surface.
"I began to choke and sank even lower and I thought that was it for me - I was dead," Yun told The Sun. "Until I felt this incredible force under me driving me to the surface."
That force was Mila, one of the park's beluga whales, who used her mouth to pick Yun up by the leg and then swim her to the surface so the diver could emerge for air.
An event organizer noted that Mila spotted the problem before any humans. "She's a sensitive animal who works closely with humans and I think this girl owes her her life."
Thanks so much for sharing this story Kathy...I would have never seen it otherwise. I too, LOVE stories like these...shows how connected we all truly are... I sent it along to my sister.
